Laura Bush Cares About Black People?

According to Kanye, President George W. Bush doesn't care about Black people, but apparently his wife, Laura Bush, does. The former first lady recently joined the advisory board of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African-American History and Culture. Yes, you read that correctly, African-American.Her role is to help raise money for the museum which is scheduled to open in the year 2015. Laura Bush joins Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones and Citigroup chairman Richard Parsons who are helping to raise private funds for the $500 million dollar project. Congress pledged to provide half of the cost; private funding is needed to cover the remaining amount.

We know the Bush fam is good at making money but their relationship with Black folks leaves a lot to be desired. Just recall George W. Bush's handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans or the ever-so convenient disenfranchisement of Blacks in brother/Governor Jeb's Florida during the 2000 presidential election. Could it be that now that we have a Black president the Bush family is trying to redeem themselves with the Black community?
