10 Reasons Why Michael Jordan Shouldn't Own An NBA Team

Michael Jordan wants his own NBA team
. And if there's one thing we've learned about MJ over the course of his long career, it's that whatever Michael wants, Michael usually gets. Thing is, we're not so sure that's a good idea.

While the NBA may love MJ's latest move more than any of the ones he used to do on the court, it takes a selfless leader to lead an NBA team to victory from a management position. And in the past, Air Jordan hasn't exactly shown us that he has what it takes to play that role.

To prove our point, we've listed ten moments to help prove that MJ definitely does not have the poise or the character that it takes to be the next owner of the Bobcats. David Stern, consider yourself warned...

10. The infamous "I'm Back" press release in 1995

Seventeen months after unexpectedly retiring from the game of basketball to pursue a baseball career with the Chicago White Sox (oops!), MJ made the decision to return to the Bulls lineup in the middle of the 1994-95 season. But rather than make a formal announcement about it to help the transition go more smoothly from himself and his teammates, he decided to do it by releasing a two-word press release that read: "I'm back." Gee, thanks, Captain Obvious.

9. The Chamillionaire photo request in 2009

There's a right way -- and a very, very wrong way -- to turn down a request for an autograph or photo. According to a YouTube clip posted by Houston rapper Chamillionaire, MJ chose the latter in October 2009 when he was approached by Cham for a photo during a party Jordan was throwing. "I ain't taking pictures with no n-gga," Jordan allegedly replied at first. As if that wasn't bad enough, he took things one step further after Cham explained that he'd just purchased an MJ jersey for $7000 at a charity auction. "I tell you what," he reportedly replied. "You pay $15,000 right now for a jersey from me and I'll take a picture with you." Damn!

8. The stogie at the President's Cup in 2009

Despite being told that Harding Park in San Francisco was a smoke-free public facility, Jordan was photographed lighting up a cigar during the practice round of the PGA Tour's President's Cup in October 2009. The incident forced the parks and recreation general manager and the city attorney to ask MJ to play by the city's rules or else...So apparently, the Jordan rules don't apply everywhere, huh?

7. The Dream Team "freeze out" of Isiah Thomas at the 1992 Summer Olympics

Almost a decade after some NBA insiders accused Detroit Pistons point guard Isiah Thomas of "freezing out" Jordan at the 1985 NBA All-Star Game (Jordan attempted just nine shots and was not involved much in the Eastern Conference team's offense), Thomas was not asked to participate in the 1992 Summer Olympics as a member of the storied Dream Team. There have long been rumors that he wasn't asked because MJ told the team he would not participate in Barcelona if Thomas was on the team. Talk about holding a grudge.

6. The 60 Minutes interview with Ed Bradley in 2005

Jordan talked about his need for privacy, his business empire, bending rules on the court and not getting caught, his parents, his career and, most interestingly, his past struggles with gambling. Hmmm, gambling and the NBA ... Sounds familiar, right?

5. The blogging mistress in 2007

It's no secret that NBA players -- and athletes in general (helllllllo, Tiger!) -- cheat. But MJ managed to keep many of his "transgressions" under wraps until recently when one of his former mistresses allegedly took to a blog to reveal all the juicy details of their relationship. It couldn't have come at a worse time as Jordan was also divorced from his wife Juanita in 2007 as well in one of the costliest divorce cases of all-time. Sure you've got enough paper to cover a pro team after that one, MJ?

4. The Jay Leno Show appearance in 2010

During Leno's "10 at 10" segment, Jordan revealed that he has never asked anyone for an autograph, took a cheap shot at the former high school teammate Leroy Smith, and then asked Leno "Are you stupid?" when the late-night host asked Jordan if he could still dunk. Endearing!

3. The 2003 NBA All-Star Game lineup

Though Jordan told Sports Illustrated that his attitude about the 2003 All-Star Game was to "just get it over with," that may have been because he wasn't originally voted onto the Eastern Conference team as a starter. Fortunately, then Toronto Raptors superstar Vince Carter relinquished his spot for MJ, and all was right again in the world.

2. The 2001 NBA Draft bust

Still don't believe Michael Jordan likes to gamble? Look no further than the 2001 NBA Draft. Then the Team President with the Washington Wizards, Jordan went against all conventional wisdom and selected Kwame Brown straight out of high school with the number-one pick in the draft. How'd that turn out, Mike?

1. The Hall of Fame speech in 2009

Whether you love him, hate him, don't care about him or simply don't anything about know him, only one thing comes to mind when you watch Michael Jordan's Hall of Fame speech. And no one says it quite like Philly fans.

In case you can't tell, we think Michael Jordan can be, well, kind of a jerk. And it's one of the reasons we're not recommending him as the next owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. But what do you think? Do you think he'll do a good job if he buys the team? Will he help save the franchise and make them a major player in the NBA? Hit the comments section below and let us know.
