We all use Facebook, unless you're too cool for school (or e-stalking). So Hollywood's decided to capitalize on our Internet navel-gazing with the October-slated film "The Social Network" staring that nerdy kid Jesse Eisenberg. The flick promises to be more personal drama than algorithms, so are you interested?
What do we think? Well, the jury's still out. There's really no history for this type of film, right? Maybe "Pirates of Silicon Valley" but that's a simple business story without a large studio budget. However "The Social Network" looks like it's bringing out the big guns with Eisenberg, a crazy trailer and co-star... wait for it... Justin Timberlake. We're not sure if JT is a good dramatic actor but his "Saturday Night Live" rendition of "Dick in a Box" was a win, so we won't throw tomatoes at the former N'Sync'er outright.
Still, it seems corny to relay a story of social networking because we already know what happens, hell, we're all friends with each other. What's next a movie about Twitter? The demise of MySpace? But if this "Social Network" script is more about a social outcast that develops a genius web program to make him popular and succeeds, well, this jawn might be better than "Weird Science" which is really saying something.
